All About Mitigation
CMP Residential Certified Mitigation Program
Have your home mitigated against storm damage.
First step. Have the home inspected.
Two types of peril flood & wind
Flood: Review FEMA's Manual #312 for home owner's
For major changes to residential structures that comply with substantial improvement regulations order manual #347 May 2000
Flood proofing information available @ www.FEMA.Gov
Wind: The structure needs to be checked for roof to wall ties, roof sheeting fastening and glazing thickness, etc. Masonry wall with vertical corner reinforcement were not required until the early 1970's.This means that even if the roof structure was tied to the bond beam the roof structure can still come off in high winds with the bond beam attached.
The garage door is the largest and most vulnerable door in the home. It is critical to have the door reinforced or replaced with a compliant one. |
